She’s standing in front of you now.
Spit flying. Pissed Off. Red faced. She berates your every move. Hates your brilliant ideas. Won’t let you forget the times you messed up. Won’t shut up about how you’ll never be as good as anyone else.
What do you do?
Turn and run? Yell back? Give her the finger and punch her in the head? Sink into a black spiral of nasty ass depression? Agree with all of it?
Random human walks up. Looks at you. Looks at her. Tells you she’s not real.
You know she’s real. You’ve stuffed her with food and pills and drama to make her shut the hell up. She has to be real.
Random human says, no really. Look. It’s all a story you made up. In fact a bunch of stories. They kept you safe. Now they’re just annoying.
A story? A stupid story? WTF? I KNOW this is real. It’s my life. It’s real. This is REAL.
Random human asks what could happen, if just for a moment, you allowed yourself to believe a new story? One where you are happy and content. One where meaning and magic and wonder all flow together. One where your life, your everyday existence on the planet, becomes a gift.
What transformation could happen if you dared believe all that?
Random human invites you to share a comment and tell us.
Imagine. The. Possibilities.

Your scenario is compelling. At first I was compelled to LOOK AWAY. But then I got it. I just hadn’t thought of it quite that way. I have been in the midst of cultivating new stories. And you are right, it is an amazing gift! What if I am not who I know myself to be?! Well guess what, often I am wake up and here the other point of view and BAMM! New life!
Thanks for the insight! I think I am going to sit down and have a little chat with this Random Human. I bet she has a thing or two on her mind.
I love your comments, Rae. This one grabbed me – What if I am not who I know myself to be? YES! What if you and I are so much MORE than we know ourselves to be? Really is kind of fun to step into the discovery of all of this isn’t it. Thanks so much for writing. Cheers!
Well Martha Atkins I’d say to such a random human- yes I’m working on that each and everyday. I catch my pity party stories sooner…last night I shifted a fear story into a fantastic story while I was 1/2 asleep- yea I have gotten pretty badass lately. Good Gawwwd intention- or telling yourself a new fantastic story is freaking empowering:). Now if I could just remember, lol!
Love your full on authenticity – you are a force of Nature! Sarah
1/2 asleep and you shifted a fear story. You soooo need to give yourself a present for that powerful thought shifting! Seriously fantastic. Thanks you Radically Awesome Shaman You. Mwaahhh -
This is an article I will be sharing with a client. Great way to put it for a perspective shift. Thanks.
Great, Mary. I hope it helps. Thanks for letting me know!
I used to have the meanest woman alive talking to me. Gawd she was relentless. And fierce. And never, ever satisfied. Once I stopped believing 100% of everything she spewed at me, and got curious about whether I could possibly maybe function with a softer, kinder guide
, she got much tamer. Now, I do understand she wanted to help but had no clue about how to do it. She’s much smaller and quieter now. And she sometimes even backs down. Thanks so much, Martha, for the very vivid and very wise post.
Thanks for your words, Terry. What a gift we give to each other when we speak our truth. My mean ‘ole lady is quieter now, too, though she still pops up now and then. Your comment about ‘getting curious’ jumped out at me. More curiosity. Less judgment. I’m working toward THAT.
Keep on keepin’ on, TD. Cheers -
I breathe. I breathe and the spit stops flying. I breathe and the red face mellows. I breathe and the hatred melts.
Random Human is my breath giver. I can never find a new story until I find that breath.
But I like this idea of Random Human coming with a cannister of breath to begin the process of thawing the ice that makes spit and red and hate.
